PPE awareness

In order to reduce the likelihood of becoming hurt or sick on the job, correct usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) is very necessary. It is mind-boggling how many injuries occur in the workplace that might have been avoided if workers had just used their PPE correctly. The purpose of this course is to offer an overview of the many forms of personal protective equipment (PPE) that are often used in the workplace.

Introduction:

PPE training covers the proper use of personal protective equipment that guards the health and safety of employees. It lays out the standards for proper use and helps keep employees (and the people they serve) safe.

As an example of its importance, first responders who do not know how to properly use PPE could be compromised if they fall sick or become injured in the line of duty. Workers who use PPE are also protecting those around them from illness and accidental injury. If caregivers, first responders, and other healthcare workers carry illness, PPE helps prevent the spread of that to others.

Learning Outcomes of PPE awareness

Long and short term illness, major and minor injuries, poisoning, electric shock and so on, can all be prevented at times with the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.

This program examines various types of Personal Protective Equipment in detail, including:

·        Eye and Face Protection

·        Head Protection

·        Respiratory Protection

·        Hearing Protection

·        Protective Clothing

In each section we examine why, when and how the protection is worn.

Who can take the PPE awareness?

This program is designed for all personnel who are required to wear personal protective equipment. It is a general program suitable for induction or to reinforce the need to wear items of personal protection.

Benefits of PPE awareness

At the end of the course, participants will learn about:

  • The hazards that have been identified during the hazard assessment
  • When PPE is to be worn and the specific PPE to be worn including specific applicable elements. For example: type, material, size, style, length, color, and ratings
  • How PPE is properly fitted, donned, doffed, adjusted, and worn
  • The limitations of the PPE
  • The proper care, maintenance, inspection, useful life, and disposal of the PPE.
